About Crew to Comm
News, gear, road stories and bad coffee for the people who make the show happen. Written by crew for A1s, V1s, LDs, show callers and corporate AV techs.
Who it's for
Live-event and corporate AV production crew: show callers, TDs, PMs, A1s and A2s, V1s, EICs, LDs and MEs. If you've ever eaten dinner standing behind a drape, you're in the right place.
Not install AV. Nothing against conference-room rack builds. They just don't load in at 5 a.m.
The consoles, switchers, comms and cables you'll actually find on the show, not just the ones on the trade-show floor.
Hotels, per diem, travel days and the stuff nobody teaches you before your first tour.
What's moving in live events and corporate AV, and what it means for the people on headset.
Real crew, real shows, real lessons. Told by the people who were there.
Short, useful and readable between rehearsal and doors.
Everything is written to still make sense after strike, at the hotel bar, on 4% battery.
Who's behind it
Crew to Comm was started by Matthew Wilson, who got tired of industry coverage that read like it was written for the client side of the room. This one's written from behind the FOH table, for the folks who keep the show running when the run-of-show changes at 7:58.
