Battery management isn’t the most glamorous part of a show. Partially used AAs pile up, fresh batteries somehow get mixed in with used ones, and more than a few perfectly good cells probably end up in the trash. Then, five minutes before doors, somebody asks the question nobody wants to hear: “Are these fresh?”
Klvr is trying to clean that up.
The Klvr Charger Pro packs charging for up to 48 AA or AAA lithium-ion batteries into a single 1U rack space. For touring, broadcast and corporate production, that means an entire show’s worth of rechargeable batteries can live in the rack instead of scattered across a table full of desktop chargers.
Connect the Charger Pro to your network and Klvr Control gives you a centralized view of the charging system from a Mac or Windows computer. You can monitor multiple chargers, check individual battery levels and adjust settings without standing in front of the rack.
The batteries are just as important as the charger itself. Klvr’s lithium-ion cells deliver 1.5V, compared with the 1.2V typical of traditional NiMH rechargeables, making them a better match for gear designed around standard alkaline batteries. They’re also engineered with a more familiar discharge behavior, which helps make remaining runtime easier to judge. The Charger Pro is designed specifically for Klvr batteries, so only Klvr cells can be used in the system.

Klvr says it has recreated the familiar alkaline discharge curve, rather than leaving users with a battery indicator that suddenly falls off a cliff near the end of a charge. The idea is simple: give both the device and the operator a more predictable indication of remaining battery life — something that matters when those batteries are powering wireless mics, IEM packs and other mission-critical gear.
Klvr rates its batteries for up to 1,200 charge cycles. Put 48 batteries through 1,200 cycles and that represents as many as 57,600 individual battery uses before reaching for another box of disposables.

“The quality of the batteries is excellent. With Klvr we do one battery change for every three that we used to.”

For production crews burning through AAs show after show, the appeal is pretty obvious: fewer disposables, fewer battery changes, centralized monitoring and 48 batteries charging neatly in a single rack space.
And maybe — just maybe — we can finally retire the giant Ziploc bag labeled “GOOD AAs.”
